About

Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center (NCCC) is a premier mental health outpatient treatment center in Nashville, Tennessee. The organization has grown from a solo practice to over 50 mental health therapists and support staff serving over one thousand clients per year. NCCC specializes in providing tailored therapy for those in need, with a focus on pregnancy, postpartum, & parenting, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, LGBTQIA, and teen mental health.

Challenges

"We seek to practice mental health care with compassion, integrity, authenticity, and collaboration, paving the way for a different and joyful means of offering mental health care and creating spaces of healing in our communities." says Green. "We want to be a force for transformation and healing in the world.”

While their therapists were well aware of their positive impact, it was a challenge for NCCC to demonstrate this impact objectively to other stakeholders like clients, community members, and insurance companies.

“I believe in data-driven solutions as a part of our work. In our industry, there has been a shortage of objective demonstration of the work that we do. There's a lot of qualitative data - How are you feeling? How is it sitting with you today? And that’s powerful. But I’ve worked with trauma clients for most of my career, and my trauma clients often can't communicate yes or no because of the trauma that they've experienced. And so qualitative can only go so far.”

NCCC needed an easy-to-implement feedback system to measure progress and inform treatment decisions.

“Blueprint is just another part of the story for our clients because the client and therapist can really understand what is happening, what interventions are working or not working, and celebrate progress along the way.”

Blueprint at NCCC

Therapists at NCCC immediately gained access to quality feedback methods when Blueprint's measurement-based care tool was implemented.

“Blueprint allows our therapists to easily track clients’ progress, identify the best measures/tools to use, tailor care for each client based on initial assessment, notice when someone is high risk or becomes high risk, and helps them to follow up on symptoms — all of which leads to better care for our clients.” said Green.

Using Blueprint's platform, clients began reporting on their symptoms and experiences throughout the week, and therapists could review the data before or during sessions, helping plan their next steps.

“In a session, clients may not disclose everything they are experiencing — including key information that allows the therapist to get the full picture of the client’s struggle." explained Green. "For example, a client may be dealing with increased depression symptoms, but in the session that day they are most concerned with a fight with their partner. Having qualitative data alongside the client's story helps our therapists consider the client's symptoms and talk about how they may be influencing current events."

In addition to tracking mental health symptoms, Blueprint's tool empowered clients to identify other factors that impacted their mental wellness.

“I can't tell you how many clients on my caseload, they've had a crappy night's sleep or they have not been socially connected and that has triggered their anxiety or depression. We’ve looked at the data together and I’ve seen them realize- if I just get a better night's sleep tonight, two more days from now, I'll be feeling better. Instead of internalizing, they have an insight into all the different factors that are contributing to how they're presenting that day.”
